Champagne finish for Christodoulou in debut with Team Mercedes AMG Akka-ASP

24th May 2018

Adam Christodoulou (GB) celebrated a champagne finish this weekend (18-20th May) when he took second place in his debut with Mercedes AMG Team Akka-ASP in round two of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at Silverstone.

Christodoulou, who finished second in Nürburgring 24 Hours last week, joined Tristian Vautier (FR) and Raffaele Marciello (IT) in the #88 Mercedes AMG-GT3 for his home race, the 3 Hours of Silverstone. Each took a stint to put the car through its paces in a competitive 52-car strong grid around the Grand Prix track.

Cristodoulou said: ‘It’s been a great weekend; it was my first time racing with the AKKA boys and it went really well. I was thrown in at the deep end, as it was my first time on Pirellis this year, but the team did a great job with the car set-up, which gave me a lot of confidence.’

The team had a strong start to the day qualifying in second place, once the combined lap times of the drivers was averaged.

Christodoulou took the driving seat at 15:00 (GMT) to take the maiden voyage and start the race. In his trademark calm and confident manner, he held position throughout his 60-minute stint, pushing the #76 Aston Martin hard and closing the gap from 2.4secs to less than two-tenths. As the car came into the pits, the #88 jumped into the lead as the car was handed over to Vautier.

Vautier went into defence mode to maintain the lead but couldn’t quite hold them off, at the 120-minute mark Marciello climbed into the drivers seat for the final stint bringing the car home in second.

Christodoulou said: ‘It’s been great working with the team and it’s a fantastic result for the weekend. The Blancpain GT Series is having an exciting season with many more cars on the grid.

I’m looking forward to joining Team Akka again at Paul Ricard in two weeks time (1st-3rd June).’

This weekend (25-27th May) Christodoulou will make his prototype debut in the V De V 6 hour Endurance race with Team Inter Europol Competition in their LMP3 Ligier JS P3 prototype at Paul Ricard joining Xavier Michel (FR) and Paul Scheuschner (DE)
