BRSCC ROADSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

Championship Profile

BRSCC ROADSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

Healthy grids and fantastically close racing typify the Roadsport series, Caterham’s family of championships for drivers fresh from the Caterham Academy starter series, as well as more experienced drivers on the Supersport grid.

All Roadsport cars are based on the Academy car and are all powered by 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engines which provides an impressive power to weight ratio.  Phenomenal handling comes courtesy of the Avon CR500 treaded race rubber developed for Caterham racing.  Yet the cars are road legal and competitors can, and often do, drive them home from the circuit.

The Roadsport, Tracksport and Supersport grids form part of the highly successful Caterham Motorsport ladder. Roadsport is the follow on from the previous season’s Academy, with the grid almost exclusively reserved for these drivers although there is space for a few invited novices who haven’t raced in the Academy series.  Tracksport takes the car and racing a stage further with longer races, uprated suspension and the removal of the screen and lights to increase the race car feel.

Supersport is the ultimate evolution of the Academy car, taking competitors into a fourth year of progression, with more power and a limited slip differential.  Drivers can remain in Supersport should they wish, or progress to the higher rungs of the ladder in the Superlight R300-S championship class cars.

Professional team support is not allowed in the Roadsport category, but there is factory assistance in the paddock and a great spirit of camaraderie among the drivers and their assistants.

Caterham is an iconic marquee. For more than half a century this lightweight sportscar has been the benchmark for performance and handling and is sold in over 20 countries worldwide. With great support from Caterham Cars and the championship coordinator, drivers in the Roadsport Championship have an unrivalled opportunity to progress their careers in motorsport.

Sharing its calendar with the Tracksport and Supersport championships, plus the mighty Superlights at most rounds, this year’s Roadsport calendar features many highlights including a June overseas trip to Zolder in Belgium.
