Experienced duo lined up for United Autosports’ Ligier JS P4 debut

19th April 2018

Unveiled in full at this year’s Autosport Show, the Ligier JS P4 makes its racing and UK circuit debut this weekend in the LMP3 Cup. The car, entered by United Autosports, will compete in the brand-new PT4 category which was conceived this winter as a step on the ladder for those wishing to gain experience in prototype racing.

Behind the wheel will be two experienced racers, both with LMP3 Cup pedigree. Matt Bell finished as vice-champion in the 2017 campaign while helping United Autosports to the Teams’ Championship, taking four wins alongside Tony Wells.

“I’m looking forward to debuting the new Ligier JS P4 sports car in the UK LMP3 Cup Championship,” said Bell. “It’s not something you get to do very often! I was impressed the first time I drove the Ligier LMP3, so it’ll be interesting to see what Onroak Automotive have produced for the Ligier JS P4. It looks amazing that’s for sure.”

Joining Matt will be Andrew Bentley who raced at Silverstone in the LMP3 Cup last year alongside duties in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with United. “It’s great to be asked to be part of the team for the UK debut of the exciting Ligier JS P4,” said Bentley. “If it drives how it looks it will be very quick. It’s an important step in racing as it really opens up new opportunities in prototype racing, so to be involved in its first ever race is special.”

Despite a busy start to the 2018 season which has involved racing at the Daytona 24 Hours and both the Michelin Le Mans Cup and European Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard, United Autosports Team Owner and Managing Director Richard Dean is happy to be back racing in the UK.

“We are looking forward to the opening round of the LMP3 Cup,” he said. “It will be great to finally see the Ligier JS P4 out on a UK circuit. We will be gathering more information on the car for our customers, based on the UK circuits so it will be a beneficial weekend for us.”
