FRONT-RUNNER JORDAN RETURNS FOR CLIO CUP RACE SERIES TITLE PUSH
Podium finishing Michelin Clio Cup Race Series driver Andy Jordan will make a welcome return to action in the championship this year, and is determined to mount a serious title challenge, after confirming a full-season deal with leading team Finesse Motorsport.
Following a luckless 2014 in the category, where a variety of on-track dramas ruined the Bridgnorth racer’s season, Jordan is aiming to return with a bang and get back to the sort of race-winning form he produced during the inaugural Clio Cup Series in 2013.
Jordan, who will celebrate his 24th birthday next week, will join fellow Race Series regular Pete Bennett (Blundeston) and championship rookie Adam Hatfield (Cranworth) at Finesse. The Wisbech team is also on the verge of running a fourth Clio in the Race Series this year.
“I definitely want podiums and to try and win”, said Jordan, who is again backed by Bulldog Security Products Ltd, “The pace was there last season, we just had really bad luck – I know with better luck we can be right up there and the aim is to fight for the championship. It’s good to be with Finesse, they’re a top team and I know we’ve got a great chance to have a strong year.”
Running as a privateer during the first Race Series season in 2013, Jordan joined Total Control Racing last year but immediately found himself on the back-foot due to a sensor issue before the opening race. Hitting back with a top five finish in round two, the Shropshire driver climbed onto the podium during the next event at Oulton Park and looked set for a strong remainder of the season.
His hopes of a smooth run, though, went awry with five non-finishes and one non-start – the latter at Donington Park as a result of damage sustained in the preceding race. Gallingly, the enforced non-start came after Jordan had secured pole position for the encounter in question. In the end, despite delivering clear pace during the year, he ended the season in 10th position overall.
Delighted to be working with Jordan this year, Finesse team principal Neil Giddings said: “It’s great to have Andy on board, it gives the team a good mix of youth and experience. All our drivers are highly competitive and are looking for podium finishes”
Alongside his confirmed 2015 Michelin Clio Cup Race Series bid, Jordan will also contest the Britcar 24 Hour race at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in late April at the wheel of his Clio. The twice-round-the-clock encounter is making its return to the UK motorsport calendar after a sojourn of two years.
Rounds one, two and three of the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series will take place over the weekend 11th/12th April at Rockingham International Super Sportscar Circuit in Northamptonshire.
Along with headline sponsors Michelin and Protyre, the Clio Cup Series is additionally supported by Ferodo and Safety Devices with further support for the Road Series from Monster Sport Europe.
