In2Racing ends Porsche Carrera Cup GB season with strong showing at Brands Hatch

6th October 2017

In2Racing finished the season with three drivers in top three championship positions after a strong showing at Brands Hatch.

Peter Kyle-Henney needed to keep up his outstanding run of victories to have a chance of taking the Pro-Am2 title, and did just that with a pair of commanding wins – 22 seconds clear in race one alone. Unfortunately, he needed help as rival Shamus Jennings needed to finish third or lower for Peter to take the title, but he held on, winning the championship by a single point, a tough result after Peter’s incredible performance to win 12 times this season.

Pro-Am2 colleague Iain Dockerill bounced back from missing the podium at Silverstone with a third-place finish in race one, but fell back to fifth in the dying laps in race two, though it was enough for him to secure third in the Pro-Am2 championship standings behind Peter.

In the Pro class, Tom Wrigley put in a stellar performance in race one to finish sixth, and followed up with another top-ten performance, coming home ninth in race two. This was enough to create a clean sweep of top-three championship performances as he finished second in the Rookie standings, a just reward for his efforts this year.

Tom Wrigley, driver #19

“It’s been a positive day of racing to cap off a strong weekend. We came away with a good top six finish under our belts, no damage to the car and I’ve learnt that my pace is pretty competitive when driving a Porsche in the wet. Friday was one of the best days I’ve had in the car and I was really pleased with how practice went. Qualifying was a difficult one and that was a bit of a mystery, but we came back well and showed strong pace in the races.

“I’ve probably learnt more this season than I have in any year of my racing career so far and to come away with second in the Rookie standings in a positive end to the season. I must say a huge thank you to In2Racing, they have been a real pleasure to work with this season and they’ve given me a fantastic car. Hopefully, we’ll be back in 2018.”

Peter Kyle-Henney, driver #22

“The team’s done a fantastic job all year, the car has been brilliant. Peter has done a great job engineering the car, and I have to thank Josh for getting my pace up – that’s why we won so many races.

“We’ve been fastest all weekend. I’m a fair, clean driver, so all I could do was get out in front a drive away. It was frustrating because I could see Shamus in the distance.”

Iain Dockerill, driver #23

“The second race was disappointing as traffic was a bit of an issue but I had a good fight with David Fairbrother and Shamus Jennings. It was similar in race one when Shamus and I were nose to tail but I wasn’t in a position to make a move. The conditions were very tricky in both races and the chances of making an error are much higher when the rain plays a part so I was focused on bringing the car home in one piece.”

Nick Dudfield, Team Principal

“If you could turn the clock back to March and qualifying in amongst the Pro-Am1 drivers Peter got caught up in an indecent with a couple of Pro drivers and that’s what’s been the difference between being champions and not being champions.

“Peter’s pace has been fantastic, his pace has been increasing all the while and I’m glad to say we’ve been a part of it. Every time he goes out he focuses and gives it his all, he works well with Josh, and he can be proud of what he’s achieved. We’ve laid some good foundations to come back next season.

“This is probably Tom’s best whole race weekend. He’s secured second in the rookie cup, his pace in testing was good, he has learnt a lot. On a tight budget, he’s done a great job.
“Iain this weekend has been there or thereabouts, but a little mistake in paddock meant he couldn’t quite finish second.”
