MotorsportDays driver tutor Adam Christodoulou finishes fifth in N24
8th June 2017
MotorsportDays driver tutor Adam Christodoulou finished fifth in the 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours.
For the prestigious and gruelling race’s 45th running Christodoulou split #1 Mercedes-AMG Team Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 driving duties with Maro Engel, Manuel Metzger and Yelmer Buurman.
Having qualified the car in 22nd, the team pounded round the infamous Nordschleife to finish fifth.
Such is the demanding nature of the race that keeping the car out of the barriers is a feat in itself. Risk versus reward dictates that the best option is to keep repairs and time in the pits minimal rather than needing to over drive round the world’s most dangerous circuit.
And so no penalties and technical issues aided by clean driving ensured the team climbed the order.
Winning the race in 2016, the 27-year-old is looking to return to the top step of the podium next year.
“We maximised everything we had, it almost seemed harder to finish fifth this year than to win last year!” he said.
“It was amazing to see the level of competition even higher than last year as all the manufacturers get more and more on-board, it was literally a 24 hour sprint race throughout.
“We have mixed emotions because we always want to go out there and fight for the win, but I’m really happy with everything from our side, all the pitstops were perfect and as drivers we made no mistakes, it was pretty much faultless.
“Now we need to figure out what we can do better for next year to make sure we’re back on the top spot.”
Despite the toll endurance racing takes on the body, Adam managed to set the car’s fastest lap of the race during his final stint.
“I think we had an opportunity for fourth but the conditions at the very end were very tricky and cost us a bit of time,” said Christodoulou.
“I look forward to coming back next year and trying to take back the title.”
Come the chequered flag the team had amassed a 40 second lead over sixth place.
What MotorsportDays says:
That fact that Adam and his teammates managed to finish the N24 is in itself an enormous achievement. But such is his competitive mentality that, having tasted champagne before, fifth place has left him wanting more for 2018.
This behind-the-wheel prowess and determination to better himself makes Adam a role model professional.
