Neil Newstead of Oakfield Motorsports from Donnington Park

29th September 2015

Oakfield Motorsport’s Neil Newstead continues his success in the penultimate round of the Power Maxed Mini Challenge at Donington Park last weekend.

Newstead took pole in qualifying making this 5 out of 6 this season, Oakfield Motorsport clearly have a real understanding of these cars and with Newstead’s confidence and skill behind the wheel, Newstead lets the results speak for themselves. His fastest lap time of 1.47.373 on lap four during the 15 minute qualifying session; good enough to be two tenths ahead of second place Hamish Brandon.

Race 1 Newstead struggled to get the car off the line, and with the carnage of other cars going off at Craner Curves, Newstead was backed up, it did not take long to battle his way back up through the field with an excellent move up the inside of Jefferies at the Melbourne Loop, with a lot of work and great pace Newstead caught second place man O’Conner, lap four Newstead made the same move, out braked O’Conner into the Melbourne Loop, Newstead caught Brandon but could not pass, and with 44 points available for second place Newstead said he would have been stupid to make any last minute moves and jeopardise the championship.  Newstead also collected 3 points for the fasted lap 1.46.921.

Race 2 of the day saw a grid reversal of the top 5 finishers, Newstead aced the start and in his Oakfield Motorsport Mini Copper JCW and again showed perfect race craft with rapid pace taking the fastest lap he led an impressive race taking a lights to flag victory.

Newstead continues to lead the Power Maxed Mini Challenge Championship JCW Class with 835 points from Brandon with 693 points.

The next and final round of the Power Maxed Mini Challenge Championship will be at Snetterton in Norfolk on the 31 October – 1 November 2015.

Neil Newstead said “Pressure was applied prior to the weekend, and during it, but again the support that I receive from the team around me just gives me so much confidence. People don’t understand the amount of preparation that we put into the cars prior to the weekend, the team is so committed to Oakfield Motorsport and there is no better way to pay the team back than getting the results we achieve over a weekend, clearly I am in a very strong position to win the Mini Challenge JCW Championship, but I am not taking anything for granted and we will continue with all the effort that we have been putting in.
