Silverstone-based 360 Racing plots two car return to LMP3 Cup

8th February 2018

360 Racing is planning to return to the 2018 LMP3 Cup Championship with one and possibly two cars, as it completes a dual-campaign alongside the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).

360 appeared at the first round of the 2017 LMP3 Cup at Donington Park and contested the entire ELMS season with Terrence Woodward, Ross Kaiser, and LMP3 Cup runner-up Tony Wells. The team scored a podium at the Red Bull Ring in its debut 2016 season but were unable to repeat that success last year.

“We did Donington Park and it was interesting,” said Mark Owen, Team Manager. “The line-up was a couple of guys who just wanted to have a go, and the way it fell with the ELMS last year meant that our focus was on that championship rather than the LMP3 Cup.”

Listening carefully to competitors, Championship organisers Bute Motorsport worked with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest to ensure that calendar clashes with the ELMS and Michelin Le Mans Cup were removed, making it much easier for teams and drivers to compete across Europe.

“We’ve got different customers interested in the 2018 season,” said Owen. “It is our intention to run at least one car in the LMP3 Cup, but it might be two, and we’re aiming for the same in ELMS.”

With 360 running cars in Radical championships the team feels the LMP3 format is perfectly suited to its racing operations and provides a logical next step for clients. “We have an interesting customer base from Radicals,” said Owen. “Some don’t want to go and do a full European season, but customers can work their way up the Radicals and it works as a nice stepping stone to getting into an LMP3 car.”

With the recent announcement of class PT4, expanding the LMP3 Cup to the Ligier JS P4 and Radical RXC, there is even more reason for racers to step up to compete on the Road to Le Mans.
