Sir Chris Hoy to race with BRSCC Caterhams

8th June 2017

Six-time Olympic cycling gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy will race in the British Racing and Sports Car Club Caterham Seven 310R championship this season.

Having retired from the velodrome, Hoy began competitive racing in 2013 in the Radical SR1 Cup. The following year the 41-year-old participated in the GT3 class of the British GT Championship before moving to the European Le Mans series in which he raced in the LMP3 class in 2015. That took Hoy onto the Le Mans 24 Hours last year where he contested the LMP2 class.

For 2017 the Scot will race with the BRSCC at Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Oulton Park.

Despite having finished 12th in class in the world’s most famous race, Hoy is not getting carried away about his chances.

“All the Caterham Championships are renowned for being incredibly competitive and I think dropping into them is quite a tricky thing to do. I’m not hopeful that I’m going to set the world alight, but I’ll do the best I can and enjoy it!”

But having owned a Caterham R400 back in 2008, he is relishing the opportunity.

“The Caterham Seven is almost the purest form of driving you can get. It’s incredibly light, there’s nothing on it you don’t need and it’s all about the driving experience.”
