Strong season for Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Champions, in dual-European campaign
6th November 2017
The inaugural Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship winners, Ecurie Ecosse with Nielsen Racing, undertook an ambitious dual campaign with a commitment to running in the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2017.
Young Scot Colin Noble competed in both events, with Alasdair McCaig co-driving in the UK, and Tony Wells in Europe. Noble and Wells fought well through the entire season, taking victory in the opening race at Monza, finishing the season second in the standings.
The highlight, in June, was the prestigious Road To Le Mans weekend, with two races before the famous endurance event. Unfortunately the trip wasn’t a memorable one for Ecurie Ecosse, as car problems cost the team pace in the first race, against an incredible 49 other competitors. In the second race, held just before the start of the 24 Heures du Mans, Wells put in a solid first stint, before handing over to Noble who continued the forward momentum, passing cars and challenging for second until he clipped a kerb and spun, dropping down the order.
With three podiums in a row through the middle of the season, Noble and Wells showed their talent and abilities, Noble reflecting on “a good season as a whole with some highs and lows, and it’s just a shame we couldn’t end the year on a high.”
“We’re P2 in our first season so there’s a lot of positives,” said Team Manager Sven Thompson. “A great effort from all of the team who have performed flawlessly, and now we refocus on our plans for next year and take away the lessons learned.”
With a strong Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship campaign, Ecurie Ecosse with Nielsen Racing will return to the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2018, as the team’s prize was a full entry fee, valued at €45,000.
The outfit plans to compete in both championships once again, as careful planning between Bute Motorsport and the Automobile Club de l’ouest ensures that neither series clashes. This means teams can run cars on a regular basis, ensuring cost-effective operations throughout the year.
